In Kazan, in front of the buildings of the Ministry of Culture and the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Union of Tatar Youth “Azatlyk” today organized a single picket.
An activist of the organization held a poster with the following content: “Why was not a single event held in Tatarstan on the 145th anniversary of the birth of Gayaz Ishaki? Ashamed. We demand to hold worthy events dedicated to the anniversary of Ishaki, to open a museum and a monument to Iskhaki in Kazan, to perpetuate his name, to name streets and squares after Ishaki.”
According to Tatar activists, the main purpose of the action is to express disagreement with the fact that not a single worthy commemorative event was held in Tatarstan on the 145th anniversary of the birth of Gayaz Ishaki.
“The Tatar public, with great regret and grief, is forced to state that neither on February 23, on the day of the 145th anniversary of Gayaz Ishaki, nor after in Tatarstan, no events were held in honor of our leader. Of course, it is very painful and not pleasant when the anniversaries of such important personalities for the Tatar people are ignored. We see that a lot of attention is paid to other anniversaries and events, and we rightfullyy demand respect for the personality of Gayaz Ishaki. We, as Tatar youth, strongly disagree with the fact that Tatarstan absolutely ignores the anniversary of Gayaz Ishaki, and demand that the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Culture, the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Congress of Tatars immediately take the necessary measures to organize large-scale and widespread events dedicated to the 145th anniversary Gayaz Ishaki,” Nabiullin said.
The Azatlyk leader added that in the year of the anniversary it is very important to work on perpetuating the name of Gayaz Ishaki.
“Back in 2018, when the 140th anniversary of Ishaki was celebrated, the issue of restoring and updating the writer’s museum in his native village of Yaushirma was raised. But the issue has not moved forward, we do not observe any work in this direction. We demand a complete reconstruction and renovation of the museum. In addition, the Tatar youth demand to erect a worthy monument to Gayaz Ishaki in the center of Kazan, and found a museum in the capital of Tatarstan. We also believe that schools, universities, streets and squares in all cities of Tatarstan as well as metro stations, etc. should be named after Gayaz Ishaki. The Tatar public demands to stop ignoring the name of Gayaz Ishaki,” Nail Nabiullin emphasized.
